Historical Location

The Historical location I will talk about is the small village of Ponderosa, NM. It mainly draws my attention because of its significance to my family. My family has been in the area for hundreds of years. I’ve heard many accounts from distant family members, some were cattle ranchers, some were factory workers, some agricultural workers. It’s always been a haven of sorts according to my family. I've always been interested in how this small village tucked away from everything can have such a broad range of characters and personalities.

To better understand its historical value I would want to learn more about the relationship between the village and the Jemez Pueblo given the short distance between locations. I believe understanding this relationship is the key to deciphering the true nature of the village. This location demonstrates change over time, but I feel that context is more imperative here given the historical mistreatment surrounding pueblo people and their cultures.

I think the historical significance surrounding this location is finding out the true nature and nuance of how these early people treated each other on a daily basis. It also means attempting to seek justice and visibility for the people who didn't have the choice to tell their stories.
